ABOUT MAG 7

ur Band formed in 2003 when we decided to do something that would be completely different from what pipe bands are doing in the NY/ NJ area. Playing the same parades in the heat and cold is what most bands do here, and we had all grown tired of that. Many of us have been playing for years and were feeling musically limited by the grind of the parade scene.
Our somewhat unique name is inspired by our signature concert tune,
"Theme from the Magnificent Seven."
We actually are one group of musicians that perform two completely different styles in our Concerts. As a traditional style Pipe Band, we combine with a 40 piece Concert Brass Orchestra and appear throughout the year at various venues in the Metro area. As our alter ego, we perform along with The Shots, a well known Rock Band, blending the sound of the Pipes with Guitars and Drums and writing our own arrangements of well known songs. We have found that this is a great way to reach new audiences, and playing music that a wide of range of people can relate to and enjoy, continues to be our primary goal.
As many of our members are multi talented and play several instruments, we are able to add the Smallpipes, Tin Whistle, Guitar, Flute, Electric Pipes, Didgeridoo, Harmonica, Bhodran and Irish stepdancing to our shows.
We are delighted to see that our vision has proven correct as we are now playing concerts before large audiences and experiencing what it is like to be performers on a stage, rather than marchers in poorly attended parades.
